Mamoo’s Kitchen began almost 50 years ago when when my Mom, Nelda, AKA Mamoo, quit her teaching job to be a stay-home mom and farmer’s wife. Mamoo quickly gained a reputation in her community as an incredible cook. The only thing she is more passionate about than cooking is her family and her relationship with Jesus Christ. In 1981 Mamoo returned to her teaching job to supplement the farm income. After retiring from teaching in 1990 she turned her attention to her passion of cooking. Her ministry is feeding people.
Growing up on a farm in Northeast Louisiana, food was always the element that brought people together, and Mamoo is famous for her southern, home-style cooking. My mom, Mamoo as she is lovingly known by her grandchildren, has been feeding her community for over 50 years from her dining room table. People just “happen to drop by” Mamoo’s house around lunch time just to see what’s cooking.
